First Steps
"Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase." — Martin Luther King Jr.
Breaking the Ice
Think about a time when you had to make a difficult choice—leaving behind something familiar to step into the unknown. What emotions did you feel in that moment?
Reflection
Ruth 1:1–19 tells the story of Naomi, who loses her husband and sons, and Ruth, her daughter-in-law, who chooses to stay by her side. Ruth’s famous words—“Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God”—are not just a declaration of loyalty, but of faith.
This passage reminds us that God often works through ordinary acts of commitment and love. Ruth’s decision to cling to Naomi is a turning point that sets the stage for redemption and hope. Even in grief and uncertainty, Ruth embodies courage, trust, and steadfast love.
