Be a Blessing Together
This week’s Vespers are inspired by the recent spiritual growth Community Connections Weekend that was co-hosted by Community of Faith and Vale UMC. Our theme for the weekend was centered around being sent by God to be a blessing to others because we ourselves are blessed by the love of God. Eighty children, youth and adults participated in some portion of the weekend. This was our first spiritual growth weekend; our hope is to host this event annually.
Opening Prayer
Gracious God, with hearts full of hope and a longing for others to know Your love, we pause to center our lives in Your name. Thank You for drawing near to us, for planting Your word in our mouths and our hearts. Help us not only to believe but to boldly proclaim. Make us a people who bless together—who walk, speak, and serve in unity as messengers of Your good news. Let our feet find beautiful paths of peace today. Amen.
Breaking the Ice
Where have you seen or experienced God’s love recently?
Reflection
Wrestling with the Word
- Paul expresses deep longing for others to be saved (v.1). Who are we collectively praying for as a community? How can we carry that longing together in prayer and action?
- In what ways can our shared faith deepen our compassion for those who are still seeking?
- Verses 3–4 contrast self-made righteousness with God’s gift through Christ. How can we, as a community, resist the temptation to “earn” God’s favor and instead rest in grace together?
- How does embracing God’s righteousness free us to bless others without judgment or comparison?
Next Steps
- Verse 8 says, “The message is near you; it’s in your mouth and in your heart.” How can we encourage one another to speak words of life, hope, and blessing in our daily interactions?
- Verses 14–15 ask: How will they hear unless someone is sent? How is our community being “sent” to bless others—with our feet, our voices, our presence?
- “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news.” Where are our feet taking us this week? How can we walk together in ways that bring peace and joy to others?
- What are some practical ways we can be a blessing together—in our neighborhoods, churches, or even online spaces?
Closing Prayer
Lord of all, send us with purpose – not just this past weekend, but every day. Open our eyes to those who need to hear, our hands to those who need to be held, and our voices to declare Your grace. Knit us together in love and mission, that we may be a blessing to the world around us—together. Let every step we take echo the beauty of Your calling. In Jesus' name, Amen.
