A Team Made of Misfits

Scripture Reading: Acts 10:34–35

"Then Peter began to speak: 'I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right.'" (NIV)

Devotion

I feel so good, safe and worry free each time I am a home with my wife and Children. This is because I feel like I belong here. We all long to belong. Whether at work, school, church, or even within our own families, there is a deep desire to be accepted for who we are. Yet many people carry the burden of believing they are not good enough, talented enough, or "spiritual" enough to be part of God's family.

Acts 10 reminds us that God's kingdom works differently. When Peter entered the home of Cornelius, he discovered that God was breaking down barriers that people had built for generations. Peter boldly declared, "God shows no partiality." In other words, God does not judge people by their nationality, social status, appearance, or past mistakes. He welcomes all who come to Him through Jesus Christ.

This truth should shape how we see ourselves and how we treat others. The church is not a gathering of perfect people; it is a family of redeemed people. Every believer has a place, every believer has a purpose, and every believer has gifts that contribute to the Body of Christ. As Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 12, just as every part of the human body is necessary, every member of Christ's church is valuable.

Perhaps today you feel like an outsider. Maybe your past, your failures, or your circumstances make you wonder if you truly belong. Hear this good news: Jesus specializes in welcoming those whom the world overlooks. His invitation is extended to everyone who comes in faith. There is a place for you on God's team.

At the same time, we are challenged to become people who reflect God's heart. Are we welcoming those who are different from us? Do our churches reflect the inclusive love of Christ? When we embrace others with grace and humility, we become a living witness to the Gospel.

Today, remember that God's family is bigger than we often imagine. In Christ, there are no outsiders—only brothers and sisters called together to serve one Lord.

Gracious Father, thank You for welcoming me into Your family through Jesus Christ. Thank You that Your love is not based on my background, accomplishments, or failures, but on Your amazing grace. Help me to see others as You see them and to welcome everyone with the same love You have shown me. Teach me to use the gifts You have given me to serve Your church faithfully. Make me an instrument of unity, compassion, and hope so that others may experience the welcoming love of Christ through me. In Jesus' name, Amen.
